McAuliffe Park baseball Rules - U18 - Senior

  • All games will begin at 6:30 pm
  • Game length is 7 innings with 3 outs per team.
  • All player must wear the shirts supplied by the league
  • Coaches will be called before 45 mins before game time for rain cancellations by the convener
  • Home team will set up the bases, visitor team puts them away
  • Games will not be forfeited because of too few players. If a team has 8 or fewer players, they may request a back-catcher from the opposing team. This back-catcher will not make plays at home.
  • Excluding the pitcher and catcher, no players may play more than three innings at the same position in the infield.
  • All decisions by the umpire are final.
  • Swearing and foul language will not be tolerated at the park.

Pitching and Batting
  • Pitchers must pitch a ball with an arc of 6 to 12 feet. A low pitch will be called a “Ball” before it reaches the plate regardless whether it is swung at or hits the plate.
  • A ball that is hit in the infield territory, then bounce to foul territory is a foul ball.  A ball that is hit into the outfield fair territory then bounces foul is a fair ball.
  • When a batter pops up to the catcher and the catcher catches it, the ball must go over the batter’s head to be an out. It does have to be a certain height, just over the batter’s head.
  • If a batter steps on the homeplate mat while swinging, they are automatically called out. The first time is a warning; the second time is an out
  • No throwing bats. The first time is a warning; the second time is an out.
  • A player who bats out of order is an automatic out and misses raps until their team goes through the batting order

Base Running
  • No courtesy step or leaning off base, otherwise the runner is out.
  • If a pop fly is caught for an out, a runner may tag up and run to the next base.
  • If a runner comes into contact with the ball while advancing they are automatically called out.
  • There is to be no contact tagging or sliding at home plate. For safety’s sake a line will be drawn from home plate to the backstop at a right angle to the third baseline. If the runner passes this line before the defensive player catches the ball he is safe at home. The runner may not touch home plate.

Fielding the Ball
  • If a ball is thrown to first base and it is overthrown, the runner may advance by only one more base. If the ball is thrown back into play towards another base, the runner may try to advance.
  • If a double play is turned for a third out, no runs will count on that play.
